Our story
Aisha Islamic Center (Aisha Mosque) is a nonprofit religious organization founded to run a masjid in Griffintown, Montréal. Our community brings together Muslims of every origin, nationality and walk of life. Our purpose is simple: to offer a welcoming place to practise our faith according to the teachings of Islam, and to help our Montréal neighbours discover Islam through open doors, a library, books and brochures.
2005
It started with Friday prayer
A small project to hold Jumu'ah for the Muslims of Griffintown. With the help of Allah, it brought together professionals, students and staff from ÉTS, taxi drivers and families.
2008
A musalla at 235 Peel
The gathering outgrew its first space and moved into a rented prayer hall on Peel Street, which quickly became one of the busiest places of prayer downtown.
2012
A building of our own
Alhamdulillah, Allah made it possible to buy a large, well-located building at 425 rue de l'Aqueduc, together with the Al Farooq organization, who shared the dream of a masjid downtown. The first interest-free payment of $750,000 was made in July 2012.
2014–2015
Paid in full, without interest
Thanks to countless brothers and sisters, a second interest-free payment of $215,000 followed in January 2014, and the final $230,000 completed the purchase in July 2015. Experienced volunteers and professionals then began restoring the building into a beautiful masjid.
2026
A new chapter begins
From fall 2026, a new administration takes the lead with a plan for the years ahead: schools, weekly learning, programs for children and youth, and a stronger, self-sustaining center.
